Elegant Knock Off Orchid Tutorial

Assigned with the task to decorate an elegant room, I was totally frazzled at first! Elegant and crafty generally don't sound like they go together in my book. So I had to redefine my view on being crafty since the budget definitely didn't call for the elegant items I would like to have purchased.

I heart orchids. I don't know why but given any floral selection, I will always gravitate towards the gorgeous flowers. For some reason, they just scream elegance but are so simple at the same time. The orchids I hearted at the store were over $25. MY crafted orchid - $5. I couldn't be happier!

I grabbed a square of planting styrofoam from the Dollar Tree
And a simple but pretty planter from the same place. I sliced off the corners with a knife until it fit snugly in the planter.
Wal Mart has darling orchid stems for $1 - I used 2 to make the plant a little more vivid. I cut about 2" off the stems and stuck them in the styrofoam. I then kind of twisted the orchid flowers around each other to hold the two stems together.
I doused the styrofoam with my favorite craft glue - Fabri Tac. I swear it works on everything. It doesn't firm up as fast as hot glue so you have a chance to reposition if necessary. Throw down some mossy stuff like this. Also found at the Dollar Tree.
Smoosh the moss down until it looks just right. Are you ready?

Wa la.

FANTASTIC! I heart orchids too. I need one right now and will definitely do this instead of the expensive store bought one especially since this one is soooooo gorgeous!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Gotta go now. Dollar Tree just opened...lol!

Gorgeous! I love orchids but the real ones are way overpriced for this frugal chick and I have killed too many potted plants to risk it.

You did great!

I love this idea! Wish a saw this 2 days ago, I bought a fake potted orchid at Joanns...at least I got it on sale for $6...I LOVE Orchids too but also think they are too expensive for my very un-green thumb. I have one houseplant that manages to stay alive and every time my mom sees it, she is so surprised it hasn't died! lol!
