I am that mom that gets to the pick-up line a wee bit early. If I am lucky, I am usually about the 4th car in line. :) The baby usually sleeps for the duration of the wait and her big sister watches movies and then usually ends up in the front with me. She swears she just wants to 'chill out' up there. :)<br /><br />So during my 45 minute long wait, I've discovered how to utilize my time with a little guilty indulgence. I have a cute bag loaded with my craft for the day. What's in it this week? Oh let's see....ribbon, lots of ribbon, hair clips, scissors, thread, a lighter, Fabri-Tac (my fave), satin fabric, beads, and pieces of felt.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTnoZrV9CGQ41QyZK1Pl5yfMCBQRjF6Z0_UyPgZY75kw7PjptwmriODC6FY0D1veohIRIwsaE8dapRa6Pg3gjtqgWZkBz-NvhAlML0oK0Rj21joXkcXcmXywKZI8zcDzHDjfQf8ggXnOCc/s1600/bag1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTnoZrV9CGQ41QyZK1Pl5yfMCBQRjF6Z0_UyPgZY75kw7PjptwmriODC6FY0D1veohIRIwsaE8dapRa6Pg3gjtqgWZkBz-NvhAlML0oK0Rj21joXkcXcmXywKZI8zcDzHDjfQf8ggXnOCc/s400/bag1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517348201625562882" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;">(My current crafting bag - It's the baby's Trick-or-Treat bag but too cute to just use for one night!)</span><br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(and yes...that is a rosette on there)</span><br /></div><br />I started off the school year making hair bows for the girls but then stumbled across <a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/08/blog-post.html">this</a> from Make it and Love it! Ashley is so sweet and much to my dismay, I recently discovered that she moved to the city I just moved from! We were just miles away for a few months and I didn't even know it! She is so talented and those rosettes are darling. They are my new crafting obsession! So my assembly line production ends up on these babies:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.daintycouture.etsy.com/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRk83hZh71N5PASwHUnMkEdNrHB2Wv4k2rrrUObLx-haez9JM8BqBJBSqMcfvY9pjJrI4yz8wqSHMkyRHzGn-AcoV7dl03GwFCJ8o57dogj8hwqaK38qWf7jR4mAEPUVNXfLtTcyOFAZBr/s400/peyton2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517353123594538226" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.daintycouture.etsy.com/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix2g76j6bVd5XiEbZrfKQylTEmBZLMh7aJSXrlMimw8Xh1Yo78MTNXugmSf7fP4CdvEoN6e5ECTcBbSjuNrf3R6Ix0G6hZAnWQ1ZyzGAcaAnwI72_xS9mieoIEarN7j2Uqfo14zcBnOnsD/s400/peyton1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517353102159372978" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.daintycouture.etsy.com/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhavJX6eNiDypwUwXuXwq1Dp52-YrmDPS0bCTNZvQHS-b6Ae-9ftbQqtGxA6bgp_vDi2oVYDQrkFJ2pSZOGEvBbwtCWaVJGdgThS81WgjKnA0tsG-toUgtS3vrYAJjfGw8i6RDTbpH5ScLb/s400/shirt1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517353098169444082" border="0" /></a><br />Since I've made a few gazillion of them myself, I've found a few tricks that help the amateur like me to ensure that they turn out as beautiful as Ashley's. I have three cuties at home and they do a superb job of keeping my life more than busy! This summer it dawned on me that the much dreaded day of my oldest baby going to school was just around the corner! I put all of my hobbies on ice and savored every moment I could with my family. And oh did we have fun!<br /><br />Now I am an official school mom with carpool lines, PTA meetings, room mom meetings, and homework! It is unreal how time flies!<br /><br />Among all the craziness this summer, I was able to come up with a few fun ideas! I am super excited to share them all! I hope to be a much more regular blogger in between all the new fun chaos but hope you'll understand if I am MIA for spurts here and there. :)<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/?action=view&current=janet.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/janet.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /></div>Dainty Couturehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10284166247606601312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167577405341500920.post-32332306681673398392010-07-22T08:11:00.003-04:002010-07-22T08:23:17.473-04:00Christmas in July!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/daintycouture"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzpGql2t2rIlbzqwt6koZhgwwksORekEmt8LiearpR6FrZBnsaE5rdfSd__QF7wVG4H9-S-3CyEbmb096ckuFDE7E3evB3kWm6HLD3VMKxs0Cm3qm6yiacpR1-hTDuOX0ddohBBugB54f4/s400/monohat.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496704646277103746" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Our giveaway this week is being hosted by Tip Junkie and their fabulous <a href="http://www.tipjunkie.com/">Christmas in July</a> promotion! Really? I swear the sweltering heat and suffocating humidity in the South has felt like Summer for almost a month now. But when it was so fresh and springy and cool outside, I decided to introduce some freshness Dainty's party hat line. All of the vivid colors outside inspired my creativity and I envisioned some beautiful party hats for little boys and girls!<br /><br />Instead of whipping up a few mock hats to show off on my site, I thought it would be fun to have a little giveaway! Each week I'll be giving away 2 FREE party hats in one of my new designs - one for a boy and one for a girl! So go ahead and leave up to 5 comments. And if you give me a shout out on your blog, that's good for another 10 entries! Don't forget to mention if you need a dapper or dainty hat. When we first moved here my oldest child was 1. The down stairs bathroom has a pedestal sink and I knew right away that I would need some sort of stool. I searched everywhere for something perfect. I found a ton of stools that would work functionally but, aesthetically they were definitely not winners. My husband being ever so thoughtful decided to bring me home one of those ugly plastic step stools from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Walmart</span> and for the past 3 years that is what has adorned my bathroom floor. We currently have 3 little ones and the stool is an absolute necessity...unless I want to hold them each up to wash their hands. My daughter had surgery in November and was not allowed to submerse herself in water so I started using the stool upstairs for bath time. This left me with no stool in my downstairs bathroom. Heaven forbid I carry the plastic stool up and down the stairs every day. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">lol</span> I started noticing tiny hand prints appearing on the surfaces of many items. I had to get another stool. I couldn't take it any longer. Stuck somewhere between my needs and desires I just couldn't settle on another one of those ugly plastic stools. On second thought, I couldn't fathom the cost of what I wanted...So, the other day I was <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">perusing</span> the dollar spot at Target and I found this.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z6igjxepsK4/S5XZW24__kI/AAAAAAAAAT0/9miaK-<br />7ZE1M/s1600-h/DSCF2432.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Q_pi-RoBLsMyDyC3sQHH0Hp-5PNxq8vsSgNDfnfMS5OG2NS8n73ZhYAaddGKbrKHvf33zzEXUhO8vf-pvzThgkGXbkgU7A-6u5dMaK4duGyWLCDHOKHG7saXBumw3cJUq-Rq18nH3dXP/s320/DSCF2432.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446498311089421890" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Totally and completely ugly but, $1. They are just so classy and I love the look they create. I asked my artist husband to paint some for me, I even researched having some created from other amazing etsy shops, but nothing came to fruition...until I decided to revamp my living room. I started with the top of my armoire (that tutorial coming soon!) and then decided I needed to jazz up the wall next to it. It was the perfect spot to put my silhouettes so I got to work! It was so super simple and fun!<br /><br /></div>I am pretty sure anyone can do this if you have photo editing software.<br /><br />1. Take a profile picture of your subject against a light background.<br /><br />2. I googled how to do it and came up with my own method since I don't have the specific software the tutorials referenced. I just needed a few pointers and went from there. Go for it, google 'how to make a silhouette with photoshop' or something like that!<br /><br />3. I printed my silhouettes on velum in a 4.5 by 5.5 size so it would fit nicely in a 5x7 area.<br /><br />5. I placed the velum on top of adorable scrapbook paper. I was going to print on the scrapbook paper to begin with but the velum added a muted layer that reduced the business of the decorative paper. It looks really cool in person!<br /><br />6. Frame it! I still sit on my couch and just stare at the profiles of my cuties. I am amazed at how much the silhouettes really look like my little guy and two gals!<br /><br />I paid around $5 per frame and had the velum and scrapbook paper on hand. I'm pretty sure you can't even buy a custom silhouette for $15! I'd love to see your creations!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT6UkhkToMRuolUGr_KBdmmpmmIPoz8zfebJZS-kS7KWKNjKhJw1aqYbkxJzBdtZ4FuHD8rQcwQzdNwsG-YuJGRTizJO7UQvFVimFQB_mihFsps6Eo192e5cbN1EuOgBdPLOpyYG5Si9fI/s1600-h/love2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 286px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT6UkhkToMRuolUGr_KBdmmpmmIPoz8zfebJZS-kS7KWKNjKhJw1aqYbkxJzBdtZ4FuHD8rQcwQzdNwsG-YuJGRTizJO7UQvFVimFQB_mihFsps6Eo192e5cbN1EuOgBdPLOpyYG5Si9fI/s400/love2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444463927514474274" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBDWEVhyPVV5wID6zAYwjX3GFNbNqUQH1wjTmWdMqDHQ4nkUhCH9XWwTvuS1tuW6TTuKExgBraNfOEU9ADOMuig8T2qf1Hwslo2jX6QbxhVQLZt9vBfENmZFN8gkp3vCxpl13ZCqCAeOfR/s1600-h/love1+copy+copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 286px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBDWEVhyPVV5wID6zAYwjX3GFNbNqUQH1wjTmWdMqDHQ4nkUhCH9XWwTvuS1tuW6TTuKExgBraNfOEU9ADOMuig8T2qf1Hwslo2jX6QbxhVQLZt9vBfENmZFN8gkp3vCxpl13ZCqCAeOfR/s400/love1+copy+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444463921837042434" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/?action=view&current=janet.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="width: 147px; height: 69px;" src="http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/janet.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.thegirlcreative.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><img style="width: 85px; height: 85px;" alt="The Girl Creative" src="http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq286/happielife32/TGC_button.png" /></a></div><a href="http://www.thethriftyhome.com/"><img style="width: 107px; height: 107px;" alt=" http://www.thethriftyhome.com" src="http://www.thethriftyhome.com/images/pennypinchparty.gif" border="0" /></a></div>Dainty Couturehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10284166247606601312noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167577405341500920.post-54026583896537503932010-02-23T00:38:00.014-05:002010-02-25T00:53:04.675-05:00Drab to Fab for Free...who doesn't love Free?!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQPKe1S6ZDqj4O0SjmY9vQyz6nwHzoS-HmKQr0tc2RGeqxpgos1oNl49gHzo3J3ZIcm1w8ZwqAB0LduGwAUCI9Gy4pSEKvBotJqpCqMvhVNE47cKVy_mpR6mQsbd4GL4qskrsotfSilu8/s1600-h/DSCF2738.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 287px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQPKe1S6ZDqj4O0SjmY9vQyz6nwHzoS-HmKQr0tc2RGeqxpgos1oNl49gHzo3J3ZIcm1w8ZwqAB0LduGwAUCI9Gy4pSEKvBotJqpCqMvhVNE47cKVy_mpR6mQsbd4GL4qskrsotfSilu8/s400/DSCF2738.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441317230364083010" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I am a pretty frugal person. I think this comes as quite a surprise to most people who don't know me. This was my recent reaction as I drooled over a shirt that I thought was adorable at one of my favorite, higher end, boutiques. I love to browse and dream and get great ideas but, can you believe that people actually pay $68 for a t-shirt? </div><div style="text-align: center;">I have to admit, I really loved the shirt, I just couldn't fathom the cost so, I thought...I could make that. </div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXevcf4CmUbWSYSTmWsB1uhu28hgjvxnMLgkR4AG6kyo5qGNQgFAaVszSrQQFqGfVX3-06jYfj5NO7OzAXkbjqVANyA0YAlQQ8Q91L-e0s0BoVuQYqV2apuCRcaPhqBfH7r-XvGksh2Dkp/s1600-h/necklace+t+1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXevcf4CmUbWSYSTmWsB1uhu28hgjvxnMLgkR4AG6kyo5qGNQgFAaVszSrQQFqGfVX3-06jYfj5NO7OzAXkbjqVANyA0YAlQQ8Q91L-e0s0BoVuQYqV2apuCRcaPhqBfH7r-XvGksh2Dkp/s320/necklace+t+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441309854052889714" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">I went straight to my closet and picked out a scoop neck fitted t-shirt...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw-rQFZFnQbi0MHZ6e8E0kaC8LvrmcVzao4rSnBjT-Tx5fmkqI79k9l7pbmCaLrOzPrHwL53Xvw-opCTPgPuVUDmXzxhahHKrQ2wA0UJT7E0WiEEEYNU4cqjgH_Rg9UFrWLVzBHe2knwbg/s1600-h/necklace+t+2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw-rQFZFnQbi0MHZ6e8E0kaC8LvrmcVzao4rSnBjT-Tx5fmkqI79k9l7pbmCaLrOzPrHwL53Xvw-opCTPgPuVUDmXzxhahHKrQ2wA0UJT7E0WiEEEYNU4cqjgH_Rg9UFrWLVzBHe2knwbg/s320/necklace+t+2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441309749604966786" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">You know all the buttons that come in those little bags as extra's on outfits. Elegant and crafty generally don't sound like they go together in my book. So I had to redefine my view on being crafty since the budget definitely didn't call for the elegant items I would like to have purchased.<br /><br />I heart orchids. I don't know why but given any floral selection, I will always gravitate towards the gorgeous flowers. For some reason, they just scream elegance but are so simple at the same time. The orchids I hearted at the store were over $25. MY crafted orchid - $5. I couldn't be happier!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnnXfhCKfx718i6GMfuoFs0q4b7lzPyqoPG8aZiHrHIg1xis4NOuI-FHpLYJQ0-qcFlu9lb_OyoJqumAH5GNObiYDnVlcE9tPay2Gmc7R5c2k83EK5ZzAZCIIWTH37adKexLyfre1VYEW/s1600-h/IMG_3007+0379.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnnXfhCKfx718i6GMfuoFs0q4b7lzPyqoPG8aZiHrHIg1xis4NOuI-FHpLYJQ0-qcFlu9lb_OyoJqumAH5GNObiYDnVlcE9tPay2Gmc7R5c2k83EK5ZzAZCIIWTH37adKexLyfre1VYEW/s400/IMG_3007+0379.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439718358131514562" border="0" /></a>I grabbed a square of planting styrofoam from the Dollar Tree<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5F7990RThqShvYUY1OyGqUJL9rW9IwFfhdIp0XTwLWUKwP775ksM2eGmJCyRoDHnVdsU73yEjkDzVQe-lA_1_2qqTrb14f5WyW9AYbcDCRDZQqzmO_2j6YSBi8nhC5YGQkx77Yr-5aJBn/s1600-h/IMG_3012+0384.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5F7990RThqShvYUY1OyGqUJL9rW9IwFfhdIp0XTwLWUKwP775ksM2eGmJCyRoDHnVdsU73yEjkDzVQe-lA_1_2qqTrb14f5WyW9AYbcDCRDZQqzmO_2j6YSBi8nhC5YGQkx77Yr-5aJBn/s400/IMG_3012+0384.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439718363073732770" border="0" /></a>And a simple but pretty planter from the same place. Almost any fabric will do as long as the final product passes the 'twirl' test. And if your princess is anything like mine, she goes though, on average, about 8 different princess outfits a day. Doing her laundry and cleaning her room is a full time job in itself!! Nevertheless, I can't resist and any time I see cute fabric or can envision a new skirt design, I have to pull it all together for the little diva.<br /><br />This weeks giveaway features our extra ruffely (my 3 year old swears that is a word) and sweet Lexie skirt tutorial and commercial license. <span style="font-style: italic;">To add a little fun to this weeks giveaway and to possibly ease my burden or cleaning up after my cute little wrecking crew - leave a comment about your own kiddo's dress up disasters or any great suggestions you have to keep it under control!</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />Giveaway entry rules:<br /></div><br />1. You'll see where the folding creates about 2 inches on each end of the tube where the tulle is not flush.<br />Then cut the roll every 3 inches or so. Ribbon is the easiest no-sew option. Measure around the waist of your princess. Triple that measurement and cut a piece of coordinating ribbon in that size.<br />The waist of my princess is 20". So I folded the ribbon in half and measured 10" out from both sides of the fold. I tied a firm but not too tight knot at each mark. The tutu strips will be tied between these two knots and will keep them in place.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQW0Ey5n0SWcWNCL4aPoJfxiISU_HWbzH1DYoGwSbhYd7Q_i8iJ4cs_4eMeZ4h15KVzNCYW3fwEN-e41exGrKE-LO8IPv7xarCSkLNVj-l6awwc_y5SDKYtVH6UNR4RYC9HsQv2yGIFL_7/s1600-h/025.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px; display: block; height: 267px; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431212840038191234" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQW0Ey5n0SWcWNCL4aPoJfxiISU_HWbzH1DYoGwSbhYd7Q_i8iJ4cs_4eMeZ4h15KVzNCYW3fwEN-e41exGrKE-LO8IPv7xarCSkLNVj-l6awwc_y5SDKYtVH6UNR4RYC9HsQv2yGIFL_7/s400/025.JPG" border="0" /></a>I think I love my kid's little kid chairs more than they do - just for making tutus! Here is what Heather from Williamsville, New York had to say about our newest design, the "Ella Jane" bubble skirt:<br /><br />"Ok, I know how to sew. I had a great idea to use sparkly fabric to make a bubble skirt, but wanted it quick and simple. Its for a friend and I needed to make it by tomorrow. I went through your tutorial twice, reading it through, AND I AM SO AMAZED AT YOUR IDEA!!! I am so impressed! My skirt will be so beautiful but no one will know how simple it was to make! This is exactly what I was looking for! I bought a different tutorial and it was soooo complicated and no liner, and I was so disspointed I reworded my search and found your tutorial and was sold by the pics and description. I sat in my sewing room last week and saw my fabric bin from across the room. Just a corner of this darling pink plaid patterned fabric was sticking out and I had instant visions of all the fun things I could come up with. With nothing else to sew and all the kids in bed, I whipped up the most adorable pleated skirt and matching ruched shirt for my Chickadee in no time. This was seriously one of the most pain free and simple things I've ever sewn -and that is coming from someone who learned how to sew by phone tutorials from my mom. So I promise, it can't be hard!<br /><br />I admired my handiwork all night but was nervous for the unveiling to my 3 going on 13 year old. Can anyone else relate? She looked at it, walked in circles around it, grinned and then immediately proceeded to take off her jammies so she could put it on. Score! She pranced around at church in her new outfit and had even more fun posing for the camera. And yes girls, it passes the 'twirl' test! The proof is in the pudding......Enjoy!<br /><br />The PDF tutorial will be available on <a href="http://www.daintycouture.etsy.com/">our etsy site </a>next week!<br /><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/?action=view&current=janet.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab232/daintycouture2/janet.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a></div>Dainty Couturehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10284166247606601312noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167577405341500920.post-16437546789766509272010-01-18T00:57:00.006-05:002010-01-24T20:10:48.914-05:00CLOSED...Giveaway - the Ella Jane Bubble Skirt Tutorial<div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center">CONGRATULATIONS ~ AMY AT THE LEMON COTTAGE!!!</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center">We are giving away our latest addition to the Dainty Couture tutorial line - the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=38494285">Ella Jane Bubble Skirt</a> tutorial and commercial license to make and sell this darling design! We had so much fun making these aprons for our girls. Don't worry, I didn't leave out the little man. He got one too. They are super easy and so fun. I originally made this half apron for my little peanut. I thought it would be so posh to do a long empire waist apron that wrapped around and tied in front. It turned out adorable. After I tried it on her I thought..."that could fit me" and what do you know? It did! Isn't it cute?<br /><br />All I did was take a cloth dinner napkin and fold the sides in evenly to make it 17" wide. I pinned each side and sewed it with a straght stitch to keep it in place.<br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH1_suHZghleuywYBBuiNiyLk2ZtEO8rg7DeDa9Ws9EgO-TganFqRD4RcDuaNQeH3vdqTj4Nhke5ciRhIpQHMbaGpGjBZ8No6w0523zW8NgX03lS9SVq2WLc6mvpKoTHcgRwfmlx0x0yf3/s1600-h/DSCF2158.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px; display: block; height: 300px;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427927707219899186" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH1_suHZghleuywYBBuiNiyLk2ZtEO8rg7DeDa9Ws9EgO-TganFqRD4RcDuaNQeH3vdqTj4Nhke5ciRhIpQHMbaGpGjBZ8No6w0523zW8NgX03lS9SVq2WLc6mvpKoTHcgRwfmlx0x0yf3/s400/DSCF2158.JPG" border="0" /></a> </p><br /><p>Then I made a sash for the tie. I first measured my little peanut's waist which was 18" and multiplied it by 4 giving me a measurement of 72". I cut 4 inch tall strips of fabric as long as I could and then sewed them together to make one long strip that measured my 72".</p><br /><p>I took this strip and made a piece of binding by ironing a 1/4" hem along both long sides. Then I folded it in half and ironed it all the way down the strip.<br /></p><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0TImAMSYlY9Qstc8RWdBXg67pD_1JSY9kuVeMdtJZ4ysT5ueT7xv0w6zlnXixZ79JGDOwrQ6OE93i7V3NFY_wqfA2q_PPQ6Yj-vNhyj3pZDTPaUOTFEvJriSSPWczeLx2qSbbqO-iMDgb/s1600-h/DSCF2176.JPG"><img style="width: 272px; height: 240px;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427944377933522786" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0TImAMSYlY9Qstc8RWdBXg67pD_1JSY9kuVeMdtJZ4ysT5ueT7xv0w6zlnXixZ79JGDOwrQ6OE93i7V3NFY_wqfA2q_PPQ6Yj-vNhyj3pZDTPaUOTFEvJriSSPWczeLx2qSbbqO-iMDgb/s320/DSCF2176.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0JyxP-VN35fXv_zGCkqLyzZ4rFoHVoRXbEG1uCp9BstjwCk_UAI9fQ4RNVNKcR3gDhWeIDha93WYvrS1rCV-tmYJIvGm5m1Kro6CwCmST6K9ScfdUissGFelDTYpKtx0HcMP_7nPJEWw/s1600-h/DSCF2177.JPG"><img style="width: 256px; height: 240px;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427945334088433778" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0JyxP-VN35fXv_zGCkqLyzZ4rFoHVoRXbEG1uCp9BstjwCk_UAI9fQ4RNVNKcR3gDhWeIDha93WYvrS1rCV-tmYJIvGm5m1Kro6CwCmST6K9ScfdUissGFelDTYpKtx0HcMP_7nPJEWw/s320/DSCF2177.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I then opened up the binding that I just ironed and lined the center of the fabric strip up with the center of the top edge of the napkin, folded it over along the ironed crease and pinned it in place all the way along the edge.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSeGJcgSSDqqZJtSLxn54A-qTe8ll6uJRghuVBF5HuEY2NaHaApSGbrqQhrHzdc4SyJA3y9c6ATGX-bvML36M7l2g4tMg9dnBCJynU2S6egW516d8u7nFUgWWrpvXTLKQeJpHzjR-JhaEN/s1600-h/DSCF2178.JPG"><img style="width: 271px; height: 242px;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427946345975498610" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSeGJcgSSDqqZJtSLxn54A-qTe8ll6uJRghuVBF5HuEY2NaHaApSGbrqQhrHzdc4SyJA3y9c6ATGX-bvML36M7l2g4tMg9dnBCJynU2S6egW516d8u7nFUgWWrpvXTLKQeJpHzjR-JhaEN/s320/DSCF2178.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmPlr5BFFojV1As8R5oSkM4FTDXps0CGc6qbQd3HXWMYERynTJci3iIhsHpPe9QJ9NBGLH61loSs6R6NHi1Uyy_VLsy5ko-7bYrhLBjChKEyCRdTAbsL3a7wlEWL5CuBsIs0YE88T44oxs/s1600-h/DSCF2179.JPG"><img style="width: 271px; height: 243px;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427947045532818402" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmPlr5BFFojV1As8R5oSkM4FTDXps0CGc6qbQd3HXWMYERynTJci3iIhsHpPe9QJ9NBGLH61loSs6R6NHi1Uyy_VLsy5ko-7bYrhLBjChKEyCRdTAbsL3a7wlEWL5CuBsIs0YE88T44oxs/s320/DSCF2179.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div align="left"><br />The last step is to sew the strip of binding closed along the open edge where the folded sides meet, sewing across the napkin and all the way to the other end of the fabric strip.
