In celebration of our party theme this week and our adorable party hat giveaway - we wanted to share our super simple secrets to create a darling tutu for your princess! We've created quite a few of these fancy little things and think we've simplified the process so it is an affordable, quick, simple, no sew project!
Supplies:
6 yards of tulle
Ribbon
Scissors
Yard Stick

Lay the tulle out leaving it folded in half (the way it comes off the bolt).
Cut the strip of tulle in half along the fold on the long side. Leave the tulle folded while doing this.
Now fold the 2 layers of tulle in half again, and again, and again until you have a narrow tube that looks something like this.

Now fold the 2 layers of tulle in half again, and again, and again until you have a narrow tube that looks something like this.
Cut the ends off the roll of tulle. You'll see where the folding creates about 2 inches on each end of the tube where the tulle is not flush.
Then cut the roll every 3 inches or so. Each cut will produce 2 strips of long tulle once it is unrolled.
You will end up with piles of tulle looking something like this. Keep the colors together, it makes life easier in a minute.
You can create the tutu with ribbon or elastic. Ribbon is the easiest no-sew option. Measure around the waist of your princess. Triple that measurement and cut a piece of coordinating ribbon in that size.
The waist of my princess is 20". So I folded the ribbon in half and measured 10" out from both sides of the fold. I tied a firm but not too tight knot at each mark. The tutu strips will be tied between these two knots and will keep them in place.

I think I love my kid's little kid chairs more than they do - just for making tutus! Find something similar in your home and tie your ribbon around it - make sure it is taut. I've even used my legs or the legs of a bigger chair.
Grab a strip of tulle and fold it in half. While holding the folded end open with one hand like this:Pull the two loose ends up and through the loop.
Gently pull the two ends down. The knot will tighten and look like this. Don't pull too hard or it will stretch the tulle. And don't be afraid to adjust the knot and help it cinch nicely.
Continue to creating tulle strips around your ribbon which would look super cute in no time! I used two strips of the same colored tulle before alternating to the next color. You will begin to run out of room on your ribbon as you knot the tulle. But don't worry, there's always room for more tulle! You can firmly slide the knots together and expose more ribbon. Remember, the more tulle the fluffier the tutu and the fluffier the tutu, the happier the princess!

Great tutorial! I've made one like this before but with an elastic head band for the waist, I like your idea with the ribbon so it's more adjustable. http://candacecreations.blogspot.com/2009/12/boutique-style-tutu.html
I also recently made a Rose Petal Tutu with a Tutorial you might enjoy since you seem to heart tutu's too!
